Why I Don’t Drop Ship My Designs (And What Small Batch Really Means)

Drop shipping prioritizes scale.

I prioritize intention.

While drop shipping is common in modern ecommerce, it removes the maker from the making. At Maison Noir Atelier, every 3D printed piece is produced in-house using my own printers and material selections.

What Is Drop Shipping?

Drop shipping means:

  • A product is produced by a third-party manufacturer.
  • The seller never handles the product.
  • Quality control is outsourced.
  • Production is optimized for volume.

That model works for scale. But it doesn’t align with how I design.

What Small Batch 3D Printing Means at MNA

Small batch production allows me to:

  • Select premium PLA and PETG filament myself.
  • Monitor print quality in real time.
  • Evaluate finish and structural integrity.
  • Adjust designs between runs.
  • Maintain color saturation and modern finish consistency

Some filament is specialty or color-shifting- meaning once it’s gone, it cannot be perfectly recreated. That makes each batch distinct.

Why This Matters for Quality

Small batch design allows for:

  • Stronger wall thickness decisions.
  • Better layer adhesion calibration.
  • Refined movement tolerances in flexi prints.
  • Surface inspection before release
